Why this guide
Hardly a road here charges you. What stops you is a national park, and a park is not trying to keep the road open.
66 driving roads across Poland, Czechia and Slovakia: the Tatras and the Beskids, the Bieszczady, the Sudetes and the Table Mountains, the Jeseníky and the Krkonoše, the Šumava and the Ore Mountains, the Low Tatras and the Slovak Karst. One page each: what the road is like to drive, who holds the gate and on what terms, what you may not take up it, up to four places worth stopping for, and a button that opens the whole route in Google Maps. 1,445 km of road, every line drawn from OpenStreetMap and measured at both ends against the places its page names.
The gate is a park, and the price is a car park
The dearest thing in this guide is not a toll. It is 800 crowns a day to leave a car at Ovčárna under Praděd, behind a barrier that lifts on the hour, descends on the half hour and stops lifting when the forty spaces at the top are full. Two hundred kilometres away in Poland the spur off the Road of a Hundred Bends does the same thing for forty złoty, and both roads themselves are free. Every page prints which it is.
Sometimes the answer is that you may not drive it at all
The nine kilometres to Morskie Oko, the most famous drive in the Polish Tatras, belong to the national park and are shut to private cars. So is the road from Nová Pec to Jelení Vrchy in the Šumava, permanently, since 1 July 2024. Pustevny admits permit holders and registered guests. Those roads are named in this guide and are not sold as drives, because a driving guide that sends you to a barrier has wasted your day.
Three countries, three laws about your car
Winter tyres are compulsory on snow or ice in Czechia from 1 November, in Slovakia whenever the road is white, and in Poland not at all. Czechia and Slovakia each sell a motorway vignette; Poland sells none, though three private motorway stretches take a toll at the gate. You can be in all three in a day here, and the guide says so in its front matter rather than pretending the border is a formality.
A line measured against the towns it names
Every one of the 66 lines was drawn from the OpenStreetMap extracts and its two ends measured against the places printed under its map. Not every line reaches both: on some, the line stops short of a town its page prints, and the start coordinate on the page is where the line begins.

What does Edition 2027 mean?
You download the current guide the moment you pay, with every toll, gate hour and opening date as read for the 2026 season. Each is then checked again for 2027, and the rechecked edition is emailed to you free by 1 May 2027. The roads, routes and GPX tracks do not expire. Every guide, in the 2027 Edition (all seven guides in one checkout) or bought on its own, gets its rechecked edition this way.
Do I need a vignette, and do I need winter tyres?
A vignette for the Czech and Slovak motorways; none in Poland, where three private stretches charge at the gate. Winter tyres on snow or ice from 1 November in Czechia and on any date in Slovakia, and nothing required in Poland. None of the 66 roads in the guide is a motorway, but you will use one to reach them.
How do I know a road is open on the day?
Each page names the body that decides and the 2026 answer where it published one: the park administration for a barrier or a ban, the regional road administration for a pass, the commune for a permit zone. The guide is rechecked once a year and a park decides on its own timetable, so the page tells you who to ask rather than pretending to be live.
What if a road is shut when I go?
Every page prints the road's season. Where the season has dates, the Start Here page on your phone checks today's date and says whether the road is open now, shut for winter, or which month it opens.
Does it work with my navigation app?
The GPX tracks load into komoot, Kurviger, Calimoto, OsmAnd and Garmin. If your car's own navigation cannot import a GPX file, tap Drive the route on the page: the whole road opens in Google Maps on your phone, and from there on CarPlay or Android Auto. Apple Maps and Waze get the start of the road.
Is it for motorcycles too?
Yes. The roads are the same on two wheels, and where an operator bars motorcycles, the road's own paragraph says so.
Is this a printed book?
No. It is a download: an A4 PDF with one page per road, a Start Here page for your phone that works with no signal, and a folder of GPX tracks. Print the PDF on a home printer if you want paper.
Can I give it as a present?
Yes. Buy it as usual, then write to info@outforadrive.com with the name and email address of the person it is for. A download link of their own is emailed to them, the licence passes to them, and the rechecked 2027 edition goes to their address too. Fresh links from the re-download page still go to the address you paid with.
What if it is not for me?
Ask for a refund within 30 days. One line is enough, and no reason is needed.
