Terms of sale

Last updated: 30 August 2026.

1. Who you are buying from, and who charges you

Two different parties, and it is worth being clear about which is which.

Stripe is the merchant of record for this sale. Payment runs through Stripe Managed Payments, which means Stripe is the party that takes your payment, issues your receipt and handles VAT in your country. The receipt you get will come from Stripe.

The roadbook is published and licensed by Tom Sonecki, a sole trader (Einzelunternehmen) in Hamburg, Germany. The address is in the Impressum. I write the book, I hold the rights to the editorial content, I answer questions about it, and I am the one who refunds you.

So: Stripe for the charge, me for the book.

2. What you are buying

A single licence to the 2026 edition of The Driver's Roadbook, delivered as a download. The pack contains:

  • roadbook.pdf, 48 pages: a cover and contents, a key map of every road,
  • 44 road pages, one road each, the drive-score rubric and a closing page

  • START-HERE.html, the same 44 roads as a self-contained page
  • gpx/, 43 GPX tracks. There are 43 rather than 44 because one road in the
  • book is closed and ships no track on purpose

  • LICENCE.txt and README.txt

You are buying files, not access to a service. There is nothing to log in to and nothing that expires.

3. Price

26.99 EUR, including VAT, charged once. Stripe may show the amount in your own currency at checkout. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.

4. Delivery

The download link is emailed to the address you give at checkout, after payment clears. The link is time-limited for the obvious reason; if it expires before you use it, write to info@outforadrive.com and I will issue a new one. There is no limit on how many times I will do that for you.

If the email has not arrived within an hour, check the spam folder and then write to me.

5. What you may do with it

The full text is in LICENCE.txt in the pack. In short:

You may use the routes for your own driving for as long as you like, load them onto any number of your own devices, print the roadbook for your own use, and show a friend the book or drive a route together.

Please do not post the roadbook, the START-HERE page, or the pack as a whole anywhere people can download them, and do not sell them or include them in anything you sell. Tolls change every year and roads close, sometimes for years. Keeping this accurate is the work, and the next edition is what pays for it.

The GPX tracks are different, and deliberately so. They come from OpenStreetMap and carry the Open Database Licence (ODbL). They are open data and they are not mine to restrict: you may copy, adapt and republish them, commercially or not, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap contributors and keep them under the same licence. Every GPX file repeats that in its own metadata.

What is not open data, and stays mine: the writing, the drive scores and the rule behind them, the toll, season and closure research, the places worth stopping for, and the design of the book.

6. Cancellation, and why the refund policy is better than it

This is digital content delivered immediately. Under EU law, a consumer's statutory right of withdrawal for digital content lapses once delivery has begun with the consumer's express consent and acknowledgement that the right is lost (§ 356 (5) BGB, implementing Directive 2011/83/EU). The checkout asks for that consent, because otherwise it cannot deliver the file immediately.

My own refund policy is more generous than the statutory right and does not depend on it: ask within 30 days and you get your money back, with no form and no reason needed. Nothing in this section takes that away.

7. What the book does and does not claim

The book is desk research, done carefully and shown working. It is not a first-hand account.

  • I have not driven these roads. Not one of the 44, not for this edition.
  • The same admission is on the sales page and inside the book.

  • Facts are dated to the 2026 season and each carries the source it came
  • from. Tolls change, gates open late, and roads close without notice. Check anything that would ruin your day before you rely on it.

  • The drive score is a published formula applied to my own judgement of three
  • ratings. It compares roads against each other. It is not a promise about any one of them.

  • 25 of the 44 roads have no operator source, and 23 of those are free public
  • roads with nothing to confirm. The pages say so.

  • Nothing in the book contains timings, rankings by speed, or the locations
  • of police or speed cameras, and it never will. Drive within the law and within the conditions. Where a road has a noise limit or the operator bans timed runs, the page prints that, because it is information you need.

To the extent the law allows, the book is supplied as it is, and I do not accept liability for a journey that did not work out. Nothing here limits liability for injury to life, body or health, for intent or gross negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

8. Editions and changes

The book is dated. Corrections go into the next edition rather than into a file you have already downloaded. If you find something wrong, write to me and it goes in. Buying the 2026 edition does not include later editions.

9. Typefaces and third-party material

Archivo, IBM Plex Mono and Source Serif 4, all under the SIL Open Font Licence 1.1. Icons from the Lucide set, ISC licence. Route geometry from OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL.

10. Law and contact

German law applies, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in. Questions, corrections, refunds and complaints: info@outforadrive.com.

I am not obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board, and I do not.

The Impressum is a legal requirement and is linked from every page of the site.
