LICENCE - Northern Italy Roadbook, five-road sample (DRAFT)

This is the free five-road sample. You paid nothing for it, and it is yours to
keep and to drive.

YOU MAY
Use these routes for your own driving, for as long as you like.
Load them onto any number of your own devices.
Print the roadbook for your own use.
Show a friend the roadbook, or drive a route together.
Share and reuse the GPX tracks themselves, on the terms at the foot of this
file. They are open data and they are not ours to restrict.

PLEASE DON'T
Post the roadbook, the Start Here page, or the pack as a whole on a forum, a
file host, a Telegram group or anywhere else people can download them.
Sell them, or include them in anything you sell.

WHY IT MATTERS
Access rules on these roads now change inside a season. The Tre Cime road went
to compulsory online booking in May 2026. The Nivolet's daily quota and its
three total closures are set each spring. The Sella Ronda's car-free days,
the Stelvio's and the Spluegen's are published months ahead and moved the
year before. Keeping this accurate is the work, and the next edition is what
  pays for it.

ABOUT THE ROUTE DATA
The GPX tracks, and the routes drawn on the pages, come from OpenStreetMap
and carry the Open Database Licence (ODbL). They are open data. You may copy,
adapt and republish them, commercially or not, as long as you credit
OpenStreetMap contributors and keep them under the same licence. Every GPX
file repeats that in its own metadata.

How they were made, so you can check the work or redo it: the OpenStreetMap
ways that form each road were joined end to end, side turnings were trimmed,
and any track over 8,000 points was thinned so a head unit will load it. No
routing engine was used, and no track was drawn by hand.

What is not open data, and stays ours: the writing, the drive scores and the
rule behind them, the toll, season and closure research, the places worth
stopping for, and the design of the book.

ABOUT THE PLACE LOOKUP
The towns and cities the web page searches, when you type where you are
starting from, come from GeoNames (geonames.org) and carry the Creative
  Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

The distances it then shows you are straight lines, not driving routes.
In the mountains the road is always longer than the line.

ABOUT THE MAP ON PAGE 2
The country outlines, the coast, the lakes and the rivers under the routes
come from Natural Earth (naturalearthdata.com), which is public domain and
asks for no credit. The routes drawn over them are the same OpenStreetMap
geometry as every road page, and carry the same ODbL terms as above.
