The drive

The one every list starts with. From Realp the ramp winds up under the Galenstock to 2,429 m, then falls past the shuttered Hotel Belvédère and its hairpin, the Rhone glacier below it, to Gletsch. Goldfinger was filmed on this road.

Before you go

Opened 29 May 2026 and shuts again about 27 October. Trailers and caravans are banned from Realp to the summit, where the weight limit is 18 tonnes. When the pass is shut the car train runs Realp to Oberwald, under it.
