The drive

The highest paved road in France, and not in Europe: the loop around the Cime tops out at 2,802 m above a 2,715 m col, and the Pico Veleta and the Ötztal glacier road are both higher. Two long empty ramps and a bare cone.

Before you go

Reopened on 30 April 2026 at ten, and it is open from 10:00 to 20:00 only: the Métropole shuts it overnight against frost. No fuel and no food between Jausiers and Saint-Étienne, and nothing at all in between.
